I lived in Thailand from 2011 to 2016, then returned from 2022 to 2025. That's nine years of boots-on-the-ground experience, so I feel pretty qualified to weigh in on what's actually changed versus what people assume has changed.

The Real Problem Isn't What You Think

Here's my hot take: simps aren't ruining Thailand. That demographic has always existed and always will. Older guys, socially awkward dudes, they've been going to Thailand and the Philippines for years. That's not new.

What has changed? Bangkok has successful men and young Thai women have the typical "illusion" of options.

That's the real shift.
