The Full Monty – Disclosure
It is reasonable and should be expected that any website owner would like to profit from their work. That said, this blogs existence is not completely for financially gain only, regardless, beginning December 1, 2009 the FTC requires bloggers to disclose whenever there could be hidden interests or unspoken bias to recommendations found within.
First the obvious:
Know that I am benefiting financially or otherwise from everything you click, read, or look at on my site. You should assume I have motivation to linking to any and everything, and that it will benefit me in some way.
The not so obvious:
The FTC does not like affiliate websites that inflate product claims or affiliates that mislead consumers with testimonials that are not “average”. This is good for me because I am here to create QUALITY content and QUALITY products that will improve your life and help you overcome roadblocks. Because the FTC is a bunch of old white men who don’t understand how Internet marketing works, I would have to disclose every little thing to cover my ass like: If one of you sent me a T shirt with a logo and I wore it, OR if I do an interview with someone and they buy me McDonald’s, OR if I link to a really good book on Amazon that will result in me getting a 12¢ commission, I would have to disclose that. I have no problem with disclosures, the only thing is that they would be all over the place.
So in an effort to preserve the visitor experience of this site, and to cover me, just assume that anything I link to, promote, the following holds true:
